Penn's four undergraduate schools include a college of arts and sciences, a business school, an engineering school, and a school of nursing. No matter which school or major students are enrolled in, Penn emphasizes that all undergraduate students receive a thorough foundation in the liberal arts. Many students take courses across all four undergraduate schools and choose from countless interdisciplinary minors and dual degrees.
It's well established that students applying ED I experience significantly higher acceptance rates. For the class of 2023 at Duke University, early decision applicants had an 18.4% acceptance rate, whereas students applying for regular decision, just 6.4%. While colleges tend to be not as forthcoming about their ED II acceptance rates, the binding decision has benefits for the colleges and will likely come with similarly higher rates.
I used The School's Online application portal to access the online form. Portfolio, recommendation letters, resume, personal statement, research statement, academic transcripts and personalised test scores were required. The school consistently ranks among the top ten universities in the US offering a world standard, a diverse array of academic programs, and a generous array of financial aid packages.
The deadlines for early/regular decision applications and submission of supplementary materials are available on the Penn website as also the deadlines for decisions and enrollment confirmation and acceptance . Although this news can be initially deflating, most if not all law schools will consider — and ultimately pull from — their waitlist at some point in the late spring and summer. With that in mind, this is also good news since, if there was no chance of you being admitted, law schools will not string you along or try to soften the blow with a waitlist decision.
Rejections are a given part of the admissions process and law schools have no reservations about rejecting unqualified applicants. So if you are placed on a waitlist, you should understand that you are certainly still in contention for admission. However, time-wise, most law schools will not truly consider the applications placed on their respective waitlists until after their deposit deadlines are closely approaching and/or have passed. So, even if you are placed on the waitlist in December, you will likely not hear any decision from a law school until April at the earliest. Second, a student may apply ED to take advantage of the flexibility that a later deadline offers.
For example, ED II applicants have more time to improve their standardized test scores, solidify their college preferences and assess their financial need. Students applying ED II also have an opportunity to submit strong grades earned during their senior year, whereas ED I applicants are usually evaluated on the basis of their academic performance through junior year only. Connecticut College explicitly states on their website that standardized tests taken in December of a student's senior year will be considered in the ED II process. The program is designed for students interested in international business, which is why students are required to choose a "target language" when they apply to the program. For accepted students, the program offers unique opportunities such as internships, study abroad programs, and special guest speakers.

Go through UPenn social media posts and YouTube videos to learn about aspects of campus life that appeal to you.
Browse their website for student organizations to see how you can continue your current activities in college. Going over these can help you find the professors, courses, and activities that speak to you. Unlike traditional Early Decision programs with deadlines in October or November, Early Decision II allows students to wait until later in the admissions cycle to claim their allegiance to a particular school. Most of these deadlines typically fall in early or mid-January and admissions decisions are typically rendered in early-to-mid February. Penn will evaluate your child based on their Common App personal statement, but it is equally important that they have exceptional Penn-specific supplemental essays.
Some individual undergraduate schools and specialty programs require additional written supplements, so make sure your child is aware of all Penn-specific essays required for their chosen program. Only applicants who are citizens and permanent residents of the US, Canada, or Mexico get the benefit of need-blind aid—that is, the degree of need will not affect admission decisions. International applicants must apply for aid when they apply for admission ("need-aware admission").
Aid applicants who cannot be granted aid will not be admitted. Those who are not admitted with financial aid are not eligible for aid for the rest of their program. Those with anticipated need at any time during the program should give this information at the time of application.
A total of three essays have to be submitted by applicants — one personal essay and two UPenn-focused supplemental essays. That's because the school's admissions officers want to catch a glimpse of what you might be able to contribute to the campus community through your writing. ED I and ED II are known to boost the chances of acceptance since their admissions rates are typically higher compared to regular decision. For students who have been rejected or deferred from their ED I school, ED II offers a second chance.
University of Pennsylvania admissions are extremely selective with a low acceptance rate. Applicants even with above-average scores have very little chance of getting admitted. When you apply to UPenn through the Common App or Coalition App, you have to choose one of the four schools, instead of applying to UPenn as a whole. Your choice should depend on your academic interests and strengths, as well as your future career goals. If you are applying after the deadline date, you'll be considered by each college on a space available basis.
All applicants are encouraged to provide supporting documents as part of their applications – such as essays and letters of recommendation. Be sure to review the admission requirements of your intended program to see if any supporting documents are required. You'll want to talk to your guidance counselor and inform them of the schools you're applying to. Talk to your teachers who supplied letters of recommendation and make sure they're prepared to recommend you to these new schools as well. Send your standardized test scores to your new schools, and then submit your new applications once everything is ready. Most colleges do not notify ED and EA applicants of admission until 15th December.
Because of the usual deadlines for applications, this means that if a student is rejected by the ED college, there are only two weeks left to send in other applications. Hence, it's wise to keep an eye on these early decision notification dates. While all the different undergraduate schools are competitive, some are more so than others. Wharton (9% acceptance rate) is the most competitive school, while the School of Nursing (25% acceptance rate) is the least competitive of the four.
University Of Pennsylvania Decision Date 2021 The overall acceptance at UPenn is just 5.68%, which is substantially lower than the 15% acceptance rate for students applying through the school's early decision program. Simply applying early decision at UPenn provides a big boost to your odds of admission. Wharton offers a comprehensive undergraduate business program alongside extensive study in the liberal arts and sciences, allowing students to pursue highly customized business degrees.
Choosing between more than 20 concentrations students bring inspired business solutions to nonprofit, art, science, medical, or traditional business contexts. Financial aid awards for those qualifying for financial assistance will normally be announced in full detail at the same time as the admission decisions. An applicant receiving admission and an adequate financial award under the Early Decision Plan will be required to accept that offer of admission and withdraw all applications to other colleges or universities. All Ivy League institutions will honor any required commitment to matriculate that has been made to another college under this plan. International students may receive need-based aid / demonstrated need for four years or eight semesters, and they can graduate without debt with the help of a grant-based package. UPenn provides $10 million for aid to international students, but aid applicants are in competition for very limited funds.
In recent years, the university has provided an average of 45 aid awards. Unfortunately, this can be a fairly common occurrence and, as I mentioned, it's often the most frustrating of the waiting scenarios. If you have submitted and completed your applications on time, you can assume that law schools have already read and evaluated your application and, for some reason, have not yet acted on a decision. More than likely, you are on some form of an internal Hold and, unlike being placed formally on Hold, that particular law school does not maintain an official, public Hold category. With that in mind, you can certainly reach out to a law school with any substantive updates to your application (e.g., Fall grades, new job, awards earned, new community service project) in the interim.
But again, keep any communication with Admissions Committees positive, meaningful, and no more frequently than once a month. This is the time of year where, if you've submitted and completed your law school applications in a timely fashion, you have likely heard something from most, if not all, of the schools to which you have applied. Good news (admitted!) is obviously easy to handle and, though it might sting a bit at first, the disappointment of bad news can also be managed after a while. However, I've noticed over the years that what seems to stress applicants out the most is the non-news — being on Hold, being placed on the waitlist, and worst of all, not hearing anything from schools at all.
And where there's stress, there are often ill-conceived, fear-based, and desperate attempts made by unsettled applicants that, in more cases than not, do more harm than good. Because the ED II deadlines are around the same time as the regular deadlines, it means students will still need to be prepared to apply to all of their schools. If they find out in February they got into their ED II school, they will have to withdraw all their other applications. Students will have to do all the work of all applying to the colleges, but won't reap the benefits of finding out if they got in or not. Some students might have missed the ED I deadlines back in November because they didn't have their essays, letters of recommendation, and test scores ready to send before the deadline.
ED II provides students more time to gather the necessary materials and still grants them the same benefits. The later deadlines also give students a chance to submit their first semester grades to improve their GPA. Most application deadlines for ED II fall on January 1, at or around the same time as Regular Decision deadlines. For example, Tulane University ED II apps are due by January 12th, NYU's are due on New Year's Day, while Lafayette College offers a deadline of January 15th. Lafayette outwardly tells students on their website that those who choose the ED II option will be given special consideration for admission.
Your child can apply to Penn via a binding early decision agreement by November 1st. They'll receive an answer of accepted, deferred to the regular decision pool, or denied by mid-December. Penn admits roughly half of their incoming class through early decision, but the UPenn early decision acceptance rate is still low, around 15 percent. That figure combines those who applied through regular decision with those who were deferred from early decision.
However, early decision may not be the best choice of action for students who need the fall semester of their senior year to improve test scores, GPA, or activities profile. In 2019, UPenn's acceptance rate was 7.7% and in 2020, it was 8.07 percent, consistently making it one of the most competitive schools in the country. Of those admitted, 15% identify as first-generation, 54% are women, and 56% are U.S, citizens or permanent residents who identify as a person of color.
This year, Ivy Day is anticipated to fall at the end of March or beginning of April. This date could be slightly later than usual, and we'll explain why later on in the article. Simply having great grades and superb standardized test scores is not enough to earn admission to a highly selective school such as UPenn, since nearly every applicant is academically qualified. Additionally, you also want to show your personal interest in and connection to your target language.
While most of us must fulfill a language requirement, if you're applying to this program, you probably have a deeper interest in the language itself. Are you interested in connecting more with your extended family? Do you hope to hold a job with this new language, or will studying this language improve your career? Whatever your reason for studying your target language, you should convey a deep passion for the language and a motivation to use the language for a greater purpose. The Huntsman program admissions committee looks for students who want to use their target language for a career or community-based reason in the future.
The application fee was $90 and I applied through the official graduate application portal. I wanted to study at UPenn because it is a nationally-ranked research university and one of the top recipients of competitive research grants in the U.S. Besides academics, I was also involved in a lot of research projects with my professors during my undergraduate years, which I believe came in handy during the admission process. I also focused on my personal statement and wrote in detail about my research interests. Penn offers students the option to apply without consideration of their SAT or ACT scores. Applicants may self-report their SAT or ACT scores using the QuestBridge application.
If an applicant submits scores from both the SAT and the ACT, Penn will pay attention to the higher score from either test. Official scores will be required for students who enroll at Penn and requested that their scores be considered for admission. Penn reserves the right to rescind admissions in the case of applicant misrepresentation including discrepancies between self-reported and official test scores. Students who apply to a dual degree program should consider which of the two participating schools they are most qualified for, and put that as their second choice. Students who are not admitted into the dual-degree program will then be considered for their second-choice school, as these programs often admit only a handful of students each year. University of Pennsylvania takes both the Coalition App and the Common App, as well as the Questbridge App, for students who qualified as Questbridge National College Match Finalists. The deadline to apply early decision to Penn is November 1st, 2021 and applicants should hear back by mid-December. Unless you absolutely cannot for some unavoidable circumstances, then you should submit scores from two subject tests. Excelling in them will help you get an edge over the competition, and show the admissions officers your strength in a subject - especially if you apply to the School of Nursing, Penn Engineering, or Wharton.
